Hope

Let me begin by saying this…

I’m SO excited!!!

Profound, I know. Recently, I corresponded with the people whom I will be traveling with to Uganda! I’ve chosen to travel on my first mission’s trip with this wonderful family (the Saunders) because they have been a constant inspiration to me for almost three years. They truly live out James 1:27 in a way that gives me much hope for modern day Christianity. These people go to Uganda each summer with a team and care for the poor and orphaned, just as I have always dreamed of doing (they also have a boatload of orphans that they have brought into their world; again, something I dream of doing one day! If the statement, “we become like those we hang out” with is true, then I want to hang out with them and further fall into the passionate heart Jesus)!

 It has been a difficult year on some pretty significant levels, but towards the beginning of this year, I felt like God was making a point about the theme of my year being Hope. At the time, I thought He meant hope for me; hope for healing and for joy. How self-centered! Now I see that He must have been chuckling to Himself; Hope for me was not the point – for I already had Hope. The point was for me to bring Hope to others!

I was ecstatic when I realized this. Of course God would combine my very life-long dream and the theme of my year into one life changing trip! Duh!

Working my way toward this trip will not be easy. I need $3000 in nine months. Not easy to earn for anyone, much less an unemployed young adult. But if God has shown me one thing this year, it’s that He is in the business of miracles. I look around and see that every aspect in my life is a miracle, so I have no doubt He will provide for me if I’m willing to work hard towards His call – which I am.

This blog will hold updates on how the journey to Uganda is going, as well as fun(d)raising avenues that I am taking to do my part to earn the necessary funds.  I hope that you will follow and pray and share this experience with me. 

God has clearly called us to love the broken, orphaned, and hopeless. I’m simply calling back.
